The Start of The Prayer Collective

Founded in 2004, Common Thread Ministries (CTM)—now known as The Prayer Collective—was birthed from a simple yet profound vision: to rebuild the foundations of prayer. What began with our founder, Mark Mirza, and a small group from an Atlanta interior design firm, soon grew into a powerful movement. Over the following years, Mark led a prayer ministry alongside Charles Stanley at First Baptist Atlanta before transitioning to full-time leadership of CTM. Through this journey, CTM equipped churches and political leaders across the nation to embrace the power of prayer and connect to the heart of the Father.

God's Miraculous Call to New Leadership

In April 2024, as Mark prepared for retirement, God began to reveal that leadership would be passed to Kevin Scarbrough. At the time, Kevin had received prophetic words from the Lord about stepping into a new ministry. One evening, while praying, the Lord instructed him to read Nehemiah chapters 1 and 2. As Kevin read, the Lord highlighted the significance of the months of "Chislev" and "Nisan." In Chislev, the wall of Jerusalem was destroyed, but by Nisan, which was four months later, Nehemiah prayed to God and asked the king to rebuild the wall. God spoke to Kevin and said, "Your ministry will begin in four months."

The very next Monday, during a prayer call, Mark asked Kevin to pray about leading Common Thread Ministries, sharing that he would be retiring and leaving the country in… four months. Even more remarkable, the ministry's mission statement was “rebuilding the foundations of prayer,” similar to Nehemiah rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. The Lord began to bring all of these details together, confirming Kevin’s call to continue the work God had started through Common Thread Ministries. Kevin stepped into leadership in August 2024, fully embracing the mission and the path the Lord had set before him.

Surrendering to God’s Plans

As The Prayer Collective looks toward the future, its core mission remains steadfast: to rebuild the foundations of prayer. With open hands, we surrender to the Lord, saying, “Lord, whatever you want to change, wherever you want us to go, whatever vision you give us—we will partner with you to see it fulfilled.” We trust in God's boundless wisdom and faithfulness, knowing that with every change, He will continue to touch lives and draw His people closer to Himself.
